A borewell provides access to groundwater. It does not create an unlimited supply. Farm planning should be based on conservative measurements rather than assumptions.

Before drilling

Study nearby wells, seasonal water levels, local geology, electricity access and the proposed farm's water demand. Professional assessment can reduce uncertainty, although no survey can guarantee a successful borewell.

Record what the well can actually provide

  • Bore depth and construction details.
  • Static and pumping water levels.
  • Approximate discharge and recovery time.
  • Seasonal changes.
  • Basic water-quality results.

Design for restraint

Salinity, pH and dissolved minerals can affect crops, equipment and soil. Match crop area to dependable supply, then use suitable irrigation, mulching, rainwater harvesting and soil management to reduce avoidable demand.

Groundwater is shared beneath the landscape. Responsible use protects both the farm and its wider community.
